One of the more bizarre events I have attended in Thailand a couple of years ago is the tattoo festival at Wat Bang Phra in Nakhon Chaisi at Nakhon Pathom. Once a year devotees travel to Wat Bang Phra, where a ceremony is held to recharge the magical tattoos of the participants.
Each year for the past 9 years I have photographed a woman in the fields of Nakhon Nayok, Thailand planting rice. Sometimes with help from neighbors, bu most times by herself.
The local small yield farmers in our area have transitioned from Water Buffalo and Hand Tractors to modern tractors to plow the fields, in a relatively short period of time, and yet they still use the traditional method of preparing the fields, which consists of cutting, then burning off the dead weeds, and waiting for the rain to make the hard ground ready for the plow.

One of the casualties of COVID-19 here in rural Thailand was the Buddhist monks unable to walk for morning alms.
Thailand has an extremely low coronavirus infection count and mortality rate, causing some to question Thailand’s reporting. To be fair, there is virtually no testing done here outside of hospitals for already sick patients, and autopsies are not all that common. Testing for the virus is expensive for both Thais and foreigners, hence it is not something most even consider.
I chose to do this project on 35mm film for several reasons. Even though shooting film has become popular again, that is not my major motivating factor. I want to create a project that will last. I have held in my hands an Ansel Adams negative made in the 1930s …
